If you’ve already started looking, you no doubt have been shocked by the sheer volume of gourmet single cup coffee selections available to you. The varieties are seeming endless. They all promise basically the same thing; a full rich taste like you’ve never had before. However if you are new to single cup coffee there are some things you need to know before you make your selection. Especially if you’ve always used the standard drip coffee makers. Most of those machines operate pretty much the same way. But single cup coffee makers can be a different as night and day. They have different functions, different abilities, and operate in different ways.
The first thing you need to know is the type of filter used in brewing your gourmet single cup coffee selections. The filter is so important because it is designed to clean the water of anything that might affect the taste of the water, which in turn will affect (and possible ruin) the taste of your gourmet coffee. Many of the better machines will use a charcoal filter system.
You also want to make sure the temperature of the machine will help keep the coffee hot long after you’ve taken it with you.
Also, it may not be important to you, but it’s a good idea to check and see if the machine is good for other beverages like cocoa or iced tea. Maybe you don’t drink those things, but chances are someone you know does. And when they visit and ask if you have any, it’s always nice to provide your guests with the drink they want. If you are going to spend your money on a machine why not get as much technology as you can for the price?
And speaking of price, don’t just check the price of the machine but also check the price of the coffee pods that can be used with it. Plus it would be nice to be able to use any brand of pod in your machine instead of being stuck with only what the manufacturer offers. More choices is rarely a bad thing.
